Diabetes mellitus is a common and very prevalent disease affecting about 25 % of world population. India has the largest Diabetes population in the world with an estimated 41 million people, amounting to 6% of the adult population. Diabetes mellitus is a clinical syndrome characterized mainly by hyperglycaemia due to absolute or relative deficiency of insulin. Lack of insulin affects the metabolism of carbohydrate, protein and fat and causes significance disturbance of water and electrolyte homeostasis.
